Job summary

The Senior Design Release Engineer at General Motors Corporation leads the design, release, and lifecycle management of airbag module and seat belt CCC hardware across vehicle programs.

You will ensure safety-critical components meet performance, cost, and timing targets from early development through production, collaborating with Safety Performance, Vehicle Architecture, Seats, Chassis, and Manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Materials, or a related engineering discipline.
• Six or more years of DRE or equivalent experience in full cycle product development, including safety-critical components.
• Experience with airbag modules, inflators, seat belts, or related safety hardware.
• Strong knowledge of release, validation, change management, supplier quality, PPAP, and vehicle program processes.
• Proven root-cause analysis and structured problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead airbag module, steering wheel, and seat belt hardware development across program teams.
• Guide safety field investigations, product remediations, and open field actions.
• Coordinate LAT non-conformance reports with internal and external partners.
• Balance safety, cost, mass, timing, and program risk in design decisions.
• Drive technical execution across vehicle programs and suppliers.
• Communicate status, risks, and recovery plans to stakeholders.
• Lead PDT and supplier activities for releases, validation, and PPAP readiness.
• Resolve complex issues through engineering analysis and robust problem solving.
• Support field investigations and provide engineering resources as needed.
