Job summary

Spear AI, Inc. is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to shape the next generation of our maritime domain awareness platform. You’ll work on Horizon, a data-rich surface, from sketch to production, collaborating with leadership to set technical direction and improve the design system across teams.

You’ll drive accessibility, performance, and maintainability. The role emphasizes mentorship, reviews, and agile iteration in a remote-first environment with national exposure to defense-related workflows.

Qualifications

• Expertise with Tailwind CSS and modern CSS fundamentals.
• Strong grasp of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2) and performance metrics.
• Experience with frontend technologies like React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining decisions and design rationale.
• Demonstrated experience designing and building design systems used by other teams.
• Solid background in Product/UI Design with typography and visual hierarchy.
• Fluency in Figma — variables, auto layout, component architecture.
• Comfort designing data-dense interfaces — tables, charts, dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement complex, data-rich product surfaces from sketch to production.
• Identify opportunities to refine features and fix issues.
• Participate in kickoffs to shape pressence of design; help write specs.
• Champion performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Lead design audits and reviews to uplift peers.
• Contribute to scaling Design Engineering across Spear AI.
