Job summary

Southland Industries in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Design Engineer I to contribute to design-build and design-assist projects across healthcare, education, biotech, and commercial markets. You’ll collaborate with model coordinators, estimators, and field staff to create practical, cost-efficient designs using VDC and CFD feedback.

You’ll perform basic HVAC and plumbing design tasks, drafting, and coordination with project management through the completion phase, with access to innovative

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and related systems design.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid computer skills including CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel).
• Four-year degree required.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Performs basic calculations for heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, and friction loss calculations.
• Assist in coordinating project design with management, architects, and other trades through completion.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
