Job summary

The Tennessee Military Department seeks a Deputy General Counsel to advise the General Counsel, The Adjutant General, and department leadership on legal matters including employment law, legislation, policy, and contracts. Qualifications

• Doctor of Jurisprudence is required.
• Licensed to Practice Law in the State of Tennessee.
• Minimum of 3 years of legal practice, preferably in egovernmental legal offices.

Responsibilities

• Provides general legal support and legal advice to Command leadership on a wide range of issues, including employment law, legislation, contracts, and open records.
• Counsels departmental leadership with coordination with the Governor's legal office and the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General.
• Reviews disciplinary actions, personnel records, and related documents for legal sufficiency and compliance.
• Guides on equal opportunity matters, including discrimination and retaliation, and ensures compliance with federal and state laws.
