Job summary

The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) is seeking a Controller II to lead the Accounting Operations & Reporting unit within the Accounting and Financial Services organization. This role reports to the DOLA Controller and manages centralized accounting, payroll and financial reporting, ensuring GAAP/GASB compliance across multiple funds and divisions.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) years of professional experience in accounting operations, financial reporting, auditing, and federal grants/contracts.
• Active CPA licensure counts toward MQs; CPA preferred for advanced qualifications.
• Experience with GASB, GAAP, state fiscal rules, and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Designs and implements centralized accounting operations and systems.
• Leads preparation of critical financial reporting and exhibits in line with GAAP, GASB, and regulations.
• Oversees general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and asset management.
• Interprets accounting guidance and determines appropriate treatment and system requirements.
• Resolves audit issues and provides guidance on policy and internal controls.
• Supervises Accounting and Payroll unit functions and staff, including performance management.
