Job summary

A technology placement service is seeking a Senior DB2 Database Administrator in Alabama, USA. This fully remote role focuses on managing DB2 z/OS databases in high-performance environments. Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience as a DB2 z/OS Database Administrator; experience with DB2 LUW is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of DB2 z/OS architecture, Netezza Performance Server, and mainframe operating systems.
  • Proven experience in mission-critical, multi-terabyte environments and data warehouse concepts.
  • Expertise in database security, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Shell, Python, Perl) and automation tools such as Control-M.
  • Experience with monitoring and performance management tools (e.g., Nimsoft, Dynatrace, Datadog).
  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • DB2 z/OS Database Administration certification preferred; healthcare industry experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain DB2 z/OS subsystems and Tier-1 mission-critical databases.
  • Configure and upgrade DB2 systems, perform capacity planning, and monitor performance for multi-terabyte platforms.
  • Support analytics workloads, data warehouses, data marts, and data lakes.
  • Apply updates, patches, and hotfixes, and manage database migration from non-production to production environments.
  • Develop and maintain data models, schemas, views, and tables to support application requirements.
  • Implement database security mechanisms including encryption, auditing, and access controls.
  • Develop, execute, and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Provide 24x7 production support and troubleshoot complex database, I/O, and SQL performance issues.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and application developers to optimize system performance and resolve issues.
  • Automate DBA tasks using scripting languages and workflow tools, and maintain operational documentation.

As a Senior DB2 Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of critical DB2 z/OS databases in a high-performance, mission-critical environment.
