Peregrine Advisors in the Washington, DC area seeks a senior Database Engineer to own the enterprise data platform’s physical design, tuning, and data modeling across Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, and S3 with Apache Iceberg. This hybrid role requires regular DC commuting and a strong focus on governance in a regulated environment.

You bring 7+ years in database development and administration, a Bachelor's degree, and hands-on experience with SQL, PL/pgSQL, and cloud data stores to deliver scalable,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of database development and administration experience.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), DynamoDB, and S3 with Apache Iceberg tables.
• Physical design at scale: partitioning, indexing, and storage layout.
• Query and EXPLAIN-plan tuning on large datasets.
• Logical and physical data modeling.
• PL/pgSQL stored procedures and S3 load patterns into the relational and Iceberg stores.
• Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Own the database layer design and tuning for a high-volume platform.
• Implement partitioning, indexing, and storage layout at scale.
• Develop data models and data pipelines into Iceberg stores on S3.
• Manage schema migrations and access controls (Apache Ranger).
• Contribute to governance and auditability in a regulated environment.
