Job summary

KinderCare Learning Companies is seeking a Senior Databricks Engineer to own the databricks-based data platform, focusing on medallion lakehouse architecture, Unity Catalog, and BI/AI pipelines. You will work in a SOX-governed environment, driving data governance and auditable engineering practices.

You will design pipelines, enforce data quality and security, and collaborate with security, analytics, and product teams to advance enterprise BI and AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, statistics, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of experience as a data engineer with 3+ years architecting/operating production workloads on Databricks.
• Strong understanding of data governance, data security, and access control best practices.
• Experience with Agile development, CI/CD automation, and Test-Driven Development.
• Excellent problem-solving and independent troubleshooting skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for non-technical stakeholders.
• Databricks certifications strongly preferred.
• Experience owning lakehouse/medallion architecture at scale for BI consumption.
• Experience in governed environments with formal change control and access governance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines across the medallion architecture using Delta Lake and Databricks Workflows.
• Own performance tuning and cost efficiency across the platform (Photon, partitioning, DBU cost governance).
• Architect data models supporting enterprise BI (Power BI) and downstream analytics.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Databricks assets.
• Integrate pipelines with middleware and cloud services.
• Administer Unity Catalog: access control, lineage, and security bindings.
• Enforce data quality, observability, and reliability across pipelines.
• Collaborate with security/audit teams for SOX ITGC alignment.
• Support ML/AI enablement: Genie, MLflow, Feature Store, Model Serving.
• Create documentation for architecture and runbooks.
• Mentor mid-level data engineers; translate requirements to technical specs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on data governance and privacy.
