Index Exchange is hiring a Staff Database Reliability Engineer to lead across data domains and drive strategic outcomes. You will shape data platforms, improve reliability, and scale our databases in a decentralized cloud and bare-metal environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Database Reliability, SRE or data systems
• Deep expertise in MySQL, MariaDB, Galera, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Aerospike, Redis, StarRocks, Vertica
• Experience deploying databases at scale in Kubernetes and bare metal environments
• Automation scripting in Python, Bash, Kotlin, Java or Go; CI/CD tooling (ArgoCD, GitLab)
• Knowledge of Liquibase, Flyway, or Alembic for DB changes
• Familiarity with observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) and streaming/big data (Kafka, Spark, Presto/Trino)
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting for globally distributed infra
• Effective communication to technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across multiple data domains and cross-functional teams
• Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the data systems team
• Lead the design, deployment, and operation of scalable databases across on-prem and cloud
• Architect relational data structures for performance and scale
• Drive technical excellence and evaluate new technologies for adoption
• Ensure robust operational processes for stability and scalability of databases
• Collaborate with developers, sysadmins, and data scientists to optimize performance
• Lead RCA and retrospective meetings for continuous improvement
