Qualifications

• 6+ years in database reliability, administration, or engineering.
• Deep MySQL expertise with query optimization and replication.
• Aurora MySQL on AWS experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on with multi-reader Aurora/RDS clusters at scale.
• Proficient in observability tools for databases (Datadog, PMM, etc.).
• Scripting in Python or Bash for automation; IaC with Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, performance, and availability of all production databases (Aurora MySQL on AWS).
• Manage database alerting end-to-end; build observability pipelines into Datadog.
• Educate teams on database hygiene and best-performing queries.
• Implement automated safeguards for long-running queries and visibility into executions.
• Author and maintain database runbooks for incident response.
• Diagnose, optimize, and re-index problematic queries to reduce latency.
• Review EMR and application queries before release to keep production efficient.
• Architect and right-size Aurora reader topology and read-routing.
• Own database cost efficiency including sizing, Savings Plans, and storage tiers.
• Manage replication health, backups, restores, failover, and DR testing.
• Establish safe schema-change practices and migration protocols.
• Partner with Platform Architect on new/existing database workloads.
• Handle PHI in a HIPAA-compliant environment.
