Job summary

Cox Automotive in the United States is seeking a Sr Software Engineer with deep database administration expertise. The role focuses on PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle on Linux/AWS, plus backup, DR planning, and performance tuning.

You will monitor, maintain, and optimize production databases, assist developers during sprints, and support migrations and data loads in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 4 years of hands-on database administration experience.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL on Linux / AWS RDS, MySQL on Linux / AWS RDS, or Oracle 19c on Linux.
• Multi‑platform experience is a strong plus.
• Solid knowledge of backup and recovery strategies (RMAN, pg_basebackup/pgBackRest, Percona XtraBackup).
• Experience with database performance diagnostics: EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, wait event analysis, index tuning.
• Hands‑on SQL and scripting in PL/SQL and/or PG/SQL for ops tasks.
• UNIX/Linux administration and shell scripting (bash/ksh).
• Experience with AWS-hosted databases (EC2/RDS) and RBAC security concepts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor health, performance, and availability of production QA and development databases on AWS.
• Perform scheduled maintenance, patching, cloning, and environment refreshes for QA and development.
• Execute and validate backups and restores to meet RPO targets; support DR testing.
• Identify slow queries and bottlenecks; assist developers in tuning SQL and PL/SQL/PGSQL.
• Write and maintain Unix shell scripts; manage automation with cron and Terraform scripts.
• Collaborate with development teams to provide database support during deployments and migrations.
