Job description

Senior Database and Analytics Developer

Location: REMOTE
Service Area: Software Development
Pay Range: Grade 11

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database and Analytics Developer to join the Isle of Wight Council's Software Development team.

The key requirement for this role is specialist experience working with Access Group Mosaic Children's Services data models, specifically for data, analytics and reporting development.

The Council does not currently have this specialist expertise in-house, so you will need to be able to work confidently and independently, using your technical knowledge to develop reporting and Business Intelligence solutions from Mosaic and other corporate data sources.

The role is predominantly remote with little to no requirement to work onsite on the Isle of Wight. However, due to server access and technical requirements, candidates must be based in the UK. The role cannot be performed from outside the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, implement and support corporate database and data storage solutions.
  • Develop complex reports and Business Intelligence solutions using data from Mosaic Children's Services and other corporate systems.
  • Work with Mosaic data models to extract, analyse and transform data for reporting purposes.
  • Design and implement complex data flows between operational systems and analytics/BI platforms.
  • Work with disparate data sources including SQL Server, Oracle and Microsoft Access.
  • Develop and maintain relational database solutions and data integrations.
  • Analyse business requirements and translate them into effective reporting and data solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database, reporting and BI issues.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and training to users and stakeholders.
  • Produce technical documentation, management reports and BI solution proposals.
  • Work closely with service areas and stakeholders to understand changing data and reporting requirements.
  • Support improvements to data storage, data quality, data literacy and Business Intelligence processes.
  • Mentor and support Database and Analytics Development officers within the team.
  • Work with suppliers and third parties where required.
  • Contribute to the development of data, database and Business Intelligence standards and processes.

About You

You will have substantial experience in database development, Business Intelligence and reporting, together with specialist knowledge of Access Group Mosaic Children's Services data.

You should have:

  • Strong experience working with Mosaic Children's Services data models for reporting and analytics.
  • Substantial experience developing and maintaining complex reports.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and relational databases.
  • Experience with Oracle Database and/or Microsoft Access.
  • Experience developing BI solutions and integrating data from multiple systems.
  • Knowledge of data warehouses, data storage solutions and data integration.
  • Experience troubleshooting reporting and BI issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience providing support and training to semi-technical users.
  • Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Experience working within a software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

A Level 4-6 qualification in ICT or a relevant subject, or equivalent relevant experience, is required.

Desirable qualifications/experience include:

  • PRINCE2 Foundation
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Agile development methodologies
  • Project management experience

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must be UK based due to server access requirements.
  • The role is predominantly remote.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for system upgrades, updates or testing.
  • You should be highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
  • You should be willing to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
