Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance's USRM Data Office seeks a data engineer to design and develop scalable data solutions, enable self-service data, and improve data quality. The role blends hands-on coding (SQL, Python, Java), BI dashboards (Power BI, SAS), and Gen AI opportunities, with hybrid work for candidates near key offices.

You will mentor junior engineers and optimize data infrastructure across multi-tier systems.

Qualifications

• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
• Master's in same or related disciplines strongly preferred.
• 3-5 years experience in coding for data management, data warehousing, or other data environments, including NoSQL, ETL, Java and scripting languages (Python, Perl, Shell), and the Hadoop stack.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable data solutions with a focus on reusability and self-service data consumption.
• Prototype and develop data solutions; code scalable proofs-of-concept and solutions.
• Stay current with data engineering advances; evaluate new tools and promote adoption.
• Identify opportunities to apply Gen AI for data discovery, lineage summarization, and automation.
• Design proof-of-concept solutions using multiple coding languages; test iteratively to meet specs.
• Mentor junior team members and guide technical directions.
• Optimize data infrastructure for performance, scalability, reliability and cost-efficiency.
• Prioritize work based on customer value and manage high-complexity deliverables.
