Job summary

SteerBridge is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data to support the Modern Disability Claims program. This backend-focused role owns the data platform tooling, APIs, and libraries, setting the standards for design, automated testing, and refactoring across the data pipeline.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Data Engineers, and ensure robust data pipelines through automated tests (pytest) and clean architecture.

Qualifications

• Active Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one (Secret or Top Secret also acceptable).
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep proficiency in Python with type hints, modern packaging, and clean-architecture practices.
• Extensive experience with pytest for unit and integration testing.
• Experience designing and building APIs and backend services.
• Experience with Git and code reviews.
• Strong communication and collaboration, with mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain internal tools, APIs, and shared libraries that expose and consume data from the data pipeline.
• Set and enforce software engineering standards across the data platform tooling.
• Establish and champion automated testing discipline (unit and integration) with pytest.
• Partner with Data Engineers to elevate pipeline components with stronger software practices.
• Package and distribute Python libraries and services with versioning and documentation.
• Lead code reviews for platform tooling and pipeline code.
• Mentor engineers on software design, testing, and refactoring.
• Debug and resolve complex defects in internal tools and services.
• Document APIs, libraries, and tools for other teams.
• Contribute to sprint planning and provide status updates.
