Job Description

The Senior Scientist Tech 2 provides strategic, technical, and programmatic advice concerning emerging capabilities in high performance scientific and visual modeling for the United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC). DAC is the Army’s focal point for data analysis and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) from component to force-on-force level models for the Army’s Future Force Modernization Enterprise (FFME).

Responsibilities

1. Provide engineering technician support in conducting ballistic experiments on various technologies, including UAS, rotary-/fixed-wing platforms, ground systems, and more, to support warfighter survivability model inputs. Experiments may involve outdoor and indoor environments with explosive materials, directed-energy weapons, and other high-impact materials.
2. Setup, operate, and post-process data from photography, video, and high-speed digital imaging systems.
3. Design and fabricate fixtures, setups, shields, and support devices.
4. Instrument hardware with measurement gauges, connect to data acquisition systems, and analyze data.
5. Operate instrumentation such as digital x-ray equipment, 3D scanners, and various vehicles and tools for ballistic testing and fabrication.
6. Conduct advanced experimentation, data analysis, and modeling activities to improve methodologies and develop new approaches in blast/shock physics.
7. Design and perform experiments on blast and shock effects on structures and occupants, developing new techniques as needed.
8. Develop methodologies to analyze data, model outcomes, and predict results using gathered test data from multiple test centers.
9. Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
10. Prepare for and conduct experiments at various facilities, including Aberdeen Proving Ground and other government, contractor, and academic sites.
11. Perform verification and validation of government software tools.
12. Support government flight tests as a qualified non-crewmember, including participation in test planning and execution.

Minimum Requirements

• A Master’s degree in Engineering or related field with 10 years of experience, OR
• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 15 years of experience.
• Ability to use and understand basic measuring devices.
• Willingness to work around energetic materials.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer skills (email, Word, Excel), mathematics, statistics, modeling, and simulation skills.
• Top Secret clearance required.
