Overview

Senior Data Scientist Tech 2

Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD

Clearance: Top-secret

The Senior Scientist Tech 2 provides strategic, technical, and programmatic advice concerning emerging capabilities in high-performance scientific and visual modeling for the United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC). DEVCOM/DAC is the Army’s focal point for data analysis and Modeling and Simulation (M&S), supporting the Army’s Future Force Modernization Enterprise (FFME).

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering technician support for ballistic experiments on various technologies, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS), rotary-/fixed-wing platforms, ground systems, and vehicle subsystems, to support warfighter survivability models. Experiments may involve outdoor and indoor environments with explosive materials, directed-energy weapons, and various projectiles and fragments.
  • Setup, operate, and post-process data from photography, video, and high-speed digital imaging systems.
  • Design and fabricate fixtures, setups, shields, and support devices.
  • Instrument hardware with measurement gauges (pressure, acceleration, strain), connect gauges to data acquisition systems, and analyze data.
  • Operate instrumentation such as digital x-ray equipment, 3D scanners, and various vehicles and tools needed for fabrication, repair, and testing.
  • Reduce arena fragment data through measurement and analysis.
  • Conduct advanced experimentation, data analysis, and modeling to improve methodologies and develop new approaches in blast/shock physics.
  • Design and perform experiments on blast and shock effects on structures and occupants, developing new techniques when standard methods are inadequate.
  • Create novel methodologies for data analysis, modeling, and outcome prediction based on test data.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
  • Prepare for and conduct experiments at various facilities, including Aberdeen Proving Ground, other government, contractor, and academic sites.
  • Verify and validate government software tools.
  • Support government flight tests as a qualified non-crewmember, including participation in test planning and execution.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field with 10 years of experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 15 years of experience.
  • Ability to use basic measuring devices (tape measures, scales, micrometers).
  • Willingness to work around energetic materials (propellants & high explosives).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic computer skills (email, Word, Excel), along with knowledge of mathematics, statistics, modeling, and simulation.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
