Job summary

MAXIMUS is seeking an experienced data scientist to apply advanced analytics in our Missoula, MT location. You will interpret results, build classifiers, and serve as a subject matter expert to guide analysts and operational stakeholders.

You will expand data collection, develop automated anomaly detection, and lead project management to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables. Stay current with technologies to grow the team's capability and impact.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years of data analysis/science experience.
• Strong understanding of ML techniques and algorithms (e.g., k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, decision trees).
• Proficiency with SQL and relational databases; capable of data wrangling at scale.
• Experience with data visualization tools and distributed/cloud computing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interpret results using data, statistics, and pattern recognition to inform decisions.
• Select features and build classifiers using ML techniques for improved performance.
• Serve as SME for data and analytics to guide analysts and stakeholders.
• Identify suitable decision-technology methods (e.g., optimization, simulation, regression, trees, neural nets).
• Use statistical methods to forecast trends and manage variability in predictions.
• Expand data collection to support robust analytics systems.
• Develop automated anomaly detection and monitor model performance.
• Lead project management and coordinate team communication.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to grow team expertise.
• Drive execution across MAXIMUS strategic areas.
