Job summary

BlueFlag LLC seeks a Senior Data Scientist to deliver production ML and AI solutions on Databricks in Azure for the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will take models from notebook to production and keep them running in a hands-on role.

You will work with internal clients to frame problems, build data products, deploy with CI/CD, monitor performance, and ensure governance across cloud tooling for impact and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Systems, Business, or related field and 15+ years of experience (or commensurate)
• Proficient in Python (pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn) and advanced SQL for data analysis
• 2+ years of hands-on work on Databricks/Azure/AWS/GCP
• Experience end-to-end data science workflow including experiment tracking and model management with MLflow
• Strong grounding in ML methods: supervised/unsupervised, gradient boosting, model selection, cross-validation
• Applied statistics: hypothesis testing, regression, sampling, experimental design
• Experience with Spark/PySpark and large distributed datasets
• Knowledge of LLMs and agent AI workflows (prompt design, RAG)
• Git and collaborative development practices
• Ability to translate ambiguous requests into deliverables
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain public trust clearance

Responsibilities

• Consult with clients to frame business problems as ML/analytical tasks and define success metrics
• Build data products and workflows from data discovery to production deployment
• Migrate workloads from legacy tools to Python and Databricks with measurable gains
• Develop, train, and validate ML models for complex business problems
• Engineer features and reusable pipelines on large datasets using PySpark and SQL
• Track experiments and manage model versions with MLflow
• Deploy models for batch and real-time scoring with CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor models for performance, drift, and data quality with alerts
• Lead AI adoption with RAG use cases and governance scrutiny
• Document models with assumptions, limitations, and evaluation results
• Create tutorials and reference code to drive cloud tooling adoption
• Host office hours and upskill client analysts and data scientists
• Present findings to technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership
