Job summary

Amcor seeks a Senior Data Scientist in Core R&D to lead the development of optimization, AI, and advanced analytics solutions across the global Flexibles R&D organization. You will contribute to data pipelines that support cost reduction, manufacturing efficiency, and product design.

You will partner with cross-functional teams to translate insights into actionable recommendations, drive digital transformation, and advance analytics capabilities within R&D.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Data Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
• 5+ years (3+ with PhD) of industry experience in operations research, data science, and/or technical engineering field.
• Demonstrated success improving organizational performance through analytics, AI/ML models.
• Proven experience managing crossfunctional projects with measurable impact.
• Proven statistical modeling and machine learning skills; expertise in mathematical optimization is essential.
• High Proficiency in Python, SQL, including building or contributing to data pipelines.
• Experience with Azure cloud platform preferred. Experience with optimization solvers (HiGHS, Gurobi, CPLEX)
• Proven understanding of polymer science, film extrusion, or food-packaging interactions is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of optimization, AI, and advanced analytics in Amcor Core R&D.
• Build models to minimize material cost while meeting performance requirements.
• Develop scheduling and process optimization models for waste minimization.
• Deploy analytics tools and predictive models to improve speed and robustness of R&D processes.
• Translate analytical insights into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Improve modeling approaches and analytics tools with best practices.
• Protect confidential R&D data and ensure proper data governance.
• Collaborate with data engineers to ensure robust data pipelines.
