Job summary

NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) seeks a Senior Data Scientist to support enforcement of city consumer and worker protection laws. You will partner with Investigators and Attorneys to design data collection, perform economic analyses, identify violations, calculate relief and civil penalties, and report findings clearly to legal teams.

The role involves creating automated data collection systems, applying advanced programming and statistical methods, mapping legal concepts

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an appropriate field required for Assignment Level II+.
  • For higher levels, doctorate or 3+ years of supervisory/research experience required; substitutions allowed.
  • Awaiting probationary period of one year.

Responsibilities

  • Identify data necessary to evaluate compliance with city worker and consumer protection laws.
  • Communicate with business counsel and technical staff to ensure delivery of responsive data.
  • Develop and use data analysis tools to describe practices, identify witnesses, and calculate damages.
  • Assess how DCWP uses data in investigations and recommend improvements.
  • Recommend changes to laws, rules, and agency guidance related to functions described above.
  • Assist with economic data analysis and process design and automation.
