Zip Co Limited is seeking a Senior Data Scientist II for a remote-first role in the United States, with an option to work in-person at the Manhattan office. You will lead advanced modeling initiatives, leverage bank transaction data, and develop production-ready models that balance risk and growth.

The role emphasizes building novel AI/ML approaches, collaborating with Data and ML Engineering, and delivering business-impactful insights.

Qualifications

• PhD preferred in quantitative field.
• 5+ years of Data Science experience (including PhD work).
• 2+ years of experience with financial services data.
• Strong problem-solving and independent work ability.
• Solid foundation in probability, statistics, and research methods.
• Experience with cashflow data (Plaid, MX, Finicity) preferred.
• Proficient in Python and SQL; Spark/PySpark a plus.
• Experience with Neural Networks, LLMs, GenAI.
• Experience with credit and/or fraud risk a plus.
• Familiar with Git version control.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, evaluate, and iterate AI/ML models using bank transaction data.
• Experiment rapidly, build proofs of concept for testing and refinement.
• Assist with test designs to generate data for future models.
• Balance short-term outcomes with long-term experimental value.
• Use AI to boost productivity and model/production outcomes.
• Build models that mitigate risk and drive growth.
• Collaborate with Data and ML Engineering for production readiness.
• Own modeling solutions end-to-end from development to production monitoring.
• Communicate findings and tradeoffs to business stakeholders.
