Job summary

Zip Co Limited is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to own the analytics strategy for new financial product initiatives. You will lead end-to-end ML/AI solutions, mentor junior data scientists, and partner with engineering to deploy production models.

The role emphasizes fast experimentation, cross-functional impact, and responsible risk-aware growth. The position is remote-first for US-based employees with an option to work in-person in Manhattan.

Qualifications

• PhD preferred and advanced quantitative degree.
• 7+ years in Data Science, including PhD work.
• 4+ years in Data Science in Financial Services.
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving and research skills.
• Solid fundamentals in probability, statistics, and applied methods.
• Experience with cashflow data (Plaid, MX, Finicity).
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; Spark/PySpark a plus.
• Experience with Neural Networks, LLMs, GenAI; credit/fraud risk a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI/ML models using bank transaction data.
• Explore open-ended problems to enable new product capabilities.
• Experiment rapidly and provide realistic proofs of concept.
• Establish evaluation frameworks and decision criteria for scale.
• Provide technical direction to data scientists; ensure quality.
• Assist with test designs to build future model versions.
• Balance short-term wins with longer-term experiments.
• Leverage AI across the stack; build custom NN/LLM solutions.
• Build models mitigating risk while driving growth.
• Collaborate with engineering teams for scalable production.
