Job summary

Zip Co is seeking a Senior Data Scientist II to design and deploy first-generation models using bank transaction data. You will work on AI-centric techniques, from experimentation to production monitoring, in a remote-first US role with optional Manhattan office collaboration.

You will partner with data and ML engineering teams, own end-to-end modeling solutions, and communicate insights to stakeholders. A PhD or equivalent, 5+ years in data science, and Python/SQL proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Social Science, or CS.
• 5+ years of experience in Data Science (including PhD work).
• 2+ years of experience with data relevant to Financial Services.
• Self-starter mentality with strong problem-solving and research skills; able to work independently to drive solutions.
• Solid grasp of probability, statistics, and applied research methods.
• Experience with cashflow data (e.g., Plaid, MX, Finicity) preferred.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; Spark/PySpark a plus.
• Experience with Neural Networks, LLMs, GenAI.
• Credit and/or fraud risk experience a plus.
• Familiarity with Git.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, evaluate, and iterate on AI/ML models using bank transaction data to enable new product capabilities.
• Rapidly experiment, build, and iterate on solutions with proofs of concept.
• Own modeling solutions end-to-end from development to production monitoring.
• Communicate findings, recommendations, and tradeoffs with business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Data and ML Engineering teams to ensure data availability and model scalability.
