Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance seeks a Data Scientist to join the CAT E&A team across multiple U.S. locations. You will apply advanced data science and ML to model catastrophe risk, working with claims, hazard models, and external datasets to improve underwriting insights.

The role requires a doctoral or master's degree in a quantitative field and strong communication skills to translate complex methods for underwriters and executives. Hybrid collaborations across teams are expected.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline with strong statistics training.
• Expertise in probability models and Bayesian methods for insurance risk.
• Experience communicating results to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and develop insights from large, diverse data sets (claims, hazard models, geospatial).
• Develop and maintain advanced data science and ML techniques for catastrophe risk.
• Collaborate with underwriters and actuaries to inform risk-based decisions.
