Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) invites applicants for a Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist to join the CAT E&A team in Boston. You will apply cutting-edge data science techniques to model catastrophe risk, integrate diverse data sources, and support underwriting decisions across lines of business.

Collaborate with domain experts, evaluate vendor models, and build internal tools to enhance risk insight. Requires Ph.D.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MS in data science, civil engineering, atmospheric science, actuarial science, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
• 3-6 years of industry experience is preferred and required for the Senior Data Scientist level role
• Advanced knowledge of probability theory, statistics, and machine learning methods is required
• Experience applying advanced statistical techniques and machine learning to large data sets in risk-related domains

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and develop insights into large and diverse data sets from claims, hazard models, structural analysis, geospatial sources, and more
• Develop and maintain expertise in advanced data science, machine learning, and AI techniques for risk understanding
• Work with domain experts across teams and perils to enhance data usage
• Propose and execute innovative solutions to insurance problems impacting underwriting decisions
