Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance in Boston, MA is seeking a Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist to join the Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics team. You will identify and apply cutting-edge data science techniques to build a better view of risk across perils and support underwriting decisions.

You will work with actuaries, underwriters and engineers, develop models for natural catastrophes, hazard, vulnerability, cyber and other risks, evaluate vendor models, and build internal tools

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in statistics, actuarial science, data science, or quantitative field.
• Strong foundation in probability theory, statistical inference, stochastic processes, and Bayesian statistics.
• Experience with data cleaning, transformation, and feature engineering.
• Experience building automated data pipelines and scalable model workflows.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and develop insights from large, diverse data sets (claims, hazard models, geospatial data).
• Develop and maintain expertise in advanced data science, ML, and AI for risk understanding.
• Collaborate with domain experts across teams to enhance data usage for underwriting.
• Propose and implement innovative solutions impacting underwriting decisions.
