Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) seeks a Data Scientist/Senior Data Scientist to join the CAT E&A team. You will explore large datasets from claims, models, hazard data, and more, driving risk insights and innovative analytics to inform underwriting decisions.

The role emphasizes advanced data science, ML, and collaboration with domain experts across perils to enhance data-driven workflows. Strong programming and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.S. in data science or related field.
• 3–6 years of industry experience for Senior level.
• Strong knowledge of probability, statistics, and ML methods.
• Experience with catastrophe model development or insurance data preferred.
• ML applied to large datasets; geospatial/claims data a plus.
• Familiarity with LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Python; also R and SQL.
• Experience with Databricks or cloud analytics platforms preferred.
• Team player, detail oriented.
