Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a Data Scientist/Senior Data Scientist to join the CAT E&A team. You will build models for natural catastrophes, cyber, casualty, and other risks, applying cutting-edge data science to improve underwriting decisions.

You will evaluate vendor models, develop internal exposure assessments, and create tools to support underwriting and risk analytics across multiple perils. Strong collaboration with actuaries and engineers is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Strong foundation in probability, statistical inference, stochastic processes, and Bayesian statistics.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate large and diverse data sets from claims, hazard models, geospatial sources, and more.
• Develop and maintain expertise in advanced data science, ML, and AI techniques for risk understanding.
• Collaborate with domain experts across teams to enhance data usage.
• Propose and implement data-driven solutions impacting underwriting decisions.
