Job summary

Thumbtack is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist on Business Analytics to drive insights across the marketplace, with a focus on conversion and monetization.

You’ll steward key metrics and dashboards, partnering with leadership across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to turn analysis into decisions. This high-visibility role shapes Thumbtack’s strategy by performing deep-dive analyses, supporting revenue forecasting, and building self-serve analytics.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, preferably in tech; experience in a marketplace or two-sided platform business is a plus.
• Strong communication skills — an attentive listener and a compelling explainer across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with using AI to automate workflows and enable self-serve analytics.
• Proficiency using SQL and Python or R to analyze large data sets.
• Experience partnering with executives to understand business needs and drive decisions.
• Experience with revenue modeling and forecasting, ideally in a high-growth or public company environment.

Responsibilities

• Define, monitor, and report on the key metrics that measure Thumbtack’s success
• Lead business performance analysis and reporting that surfaces emerging risks and opportunities for leadership
• Conduct deep-dive analyses that answer the questions most critical to Thumbtack’s future strategy
• Support and improve the company revenue forecasting model and the broader forecasting and planning process
• Build and maintain the dashboards and self-serve tools that teams across the company rely on
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and the leadership team to translate insight into action
• Strengthen our data culture through peer collaboration, review, training, and coaching
