Position
Senior Data Quality & Governance Consultant
Location
Houston, TX (ONSITE)
Summary
- Seeking a seasoned data quality and data governance consultant to work onsite with a Fortune 100 midstream oil and gas company in Houston
- You will join a lean, high-performing data team and work alongside consultants who are building the client's data governance operating model and Informatica IDMC platform
- This role is business-facing first; you will work side by side with business users to understand how processes run today, often on paper or in MS Excel, and turn that knowledge into data quality rules, data contracts, and governed data in Informatica
- You will move comfortably between VP-level conversations and hands-on build work in the console
- The team runs lean, so you will wear many hats
- The first 90 days focuses on pressing data quality, observability, and data contract needs; from there, the role grows into broader governance and platform work as the program scales
- This role is onsite; you will work in the office Monday - Thursday, and ½ day in the office on Friday
Responsibilities
First 90 Days: Data Quality, Observability, and Data Contracts
- Work with business users to understand critical data, how it is handled today, and why it matters to operations and the business
- Translate manual processes (MS Excel, paper, tribal knowledge) into data quality rules, profiles, and scorecards in Informatica IDMC (Cloud Data Quality, Profiling)
- Define data contracts between data producers and consumers as well as implement data observability and monitoring alongside tools, such as Soda
- Identify, triage, and remediate data quality issues, and report on them clearly to business and technical stakeholders
Ongoing: Hands-On Build and Scale
- Configure, build, and test in Informatica IDMC personally, and lead live demos and working sessions with the business
- Design reusable, scalable data quality rule frameworks that can grow from a handful of rules to 150+ without creating technical debt
- Contribute to the Data Governance Operating Model: Ownership, Stewardship, Business Glossary, Metadata, Catalog, and Lineage
- Support MDM and data integration work in IDMC as priorities evolve
- Explain technical trade-offs to executives in plain language, and business needs to technical teams
- Partner closely with governance and Informatica architects so the roadmap, operating model and implementation stay in sync
- Absorb knowledge and responsibilities from team members rolling off the program, keeping momentum with minimal ramp-up
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in Data Management or Data Governance, including 3+ years of hands-on experience with Informatica (IDMC preferred; on-prem IDQ/MDM also considered)
- Business Communication and High Emotional Quotient (EQ): Able to draw out requirements from business users, speak with both VPs and engineers, and translate between them; proven client-facing consulting experience with business stakeholders
- Hands-on Informatica IDMC Delivery: Has personally built and shipped Informatica IDMC solutions, especially Cloud Data Quality (rules, profiling, scorecards), and can drive a live demo
- Architecture for Scale: Has designed data quality and governance solutions that scale from pilot to enterprise volume (100+ rules) without creating technical debt
- Midstream Oil and Gas Experience: Understands midstream data domains such as pipeline operations, transportation, storage, and commercial or contracts data
- Data Quality, Observability and Data Contracts: Hands-on experience across all three
- Data Governance Practice: Experience with stewardship, ownership, business glossary, metadata, catalog, and lineage
- Onsite Availability: Able to work onsite in Houston five days per week (½ day onsite on Fridays); lives in or near Houston
- Lean-team mindset: Self-directed, comfortable wearing many hats, and quick to ramp up in a complex business
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Soda or other Data Observability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Great Expectations)
- Supply chain or logistics data experience (a plus alongside, not a substitute for, midstream experience)
- Consulting background with a firm, or as an independent advisor on governance or data management programs
- Familiarity with energy systems, such as SAP, GIS, pipeline scheduling, or energy trading
- DA.MA CDMP or equivalent data governance certifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
