Job summary

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and develop the data management layer for our platform, ensuring scalability as we onboard larger customers and new jurisdictions. You will handle data across transactions, customer data, API logs, system metrics, augmented data, and third‑party systems, processing hundreds of millions of events daily in a Google Cloud Platform foundation.

We prioritize open-source solutions and operate a 100% distributed, remote team.

Qualifications

7+ years of data engineering experience, incl. 2+ years building scalable, low-latency platforms.
Proficient in Python and SQL.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm on cloud-native stacks.
Strong relational database knowledge.
Experience with dbt for transformations.
Experience with Airflow, Airbyte, and streaming systems like Kafka.
Production exposure to CI/CD, IaC, and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

Design and oversee forward and reverse ETL patterns to deliver data to stakeholders.
Develop scalable transformation patterns for BI tool integrations across business verticals.
Expand and maintain Alpaca Data Lakehouse architecture.
Collaborate with sales, marketing, product, and operations on data flow needs.
Operate the system and manage production issues in a timely manner.
