Job summary

ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Staff Data Platform Software Engineer for the Data Access team to shape the backbone of the AI Platform. You’ll drive architecture, performance, and scalability across relational stores and SQL generation across Trino, PostgreSQL, Oracle and more.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product leadership, and deliver cross-team solutions, while embracing AI-powered data access and enterprise-scale data workflows in a hybrid work model with in-office days.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree; OR 8+ years with a Master’s; OR 6+ years with a PhD or equivalent.
• Demonstrated track record of technical leadership at Staff or Senior Staff level.
• Expert level with core Java development.
• Advanced-Expert level of backend platform development.
• Knowledge of relational databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL Server, Trino.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Selenium, TestNG) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of software quality: reliability, observability, production readiness.
• Good understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems.
• Experience integrating AI into work processes.

Responsibilities

• Set architectural direction for the Data Access team's systems, ensuring long-term scalability.
• Translate business requirements into well-architected, cross-team technical solutions.
• Drive design and code reviews, championing best practices in performance, maintainability, and testability.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering leadership to deliver features end-to-end.
• Mentor junior to staff engineers to raise the technical bar across the team.
• Develop platform technologies at scale and manage a complex codebase with quality and speed.
• Deliver projects on time and with quality, working with other engineers.
• Develop comprehensive test strategies covering functional, regression, integration, and performance.
