Job summary

Zocdoc is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the data platform that connects our products with analytics, machine learning, and operational systems. This role sits on the Data Engineering team at the boundary of backend engineering and data infrastructure.

You will build APIs, libraries, schemas, services, and supported workflows that help engineers publish and use data safely. Your work will cover the path from source-defined contracts and validation through reliable event and batch

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including backend/platform/data‑intensive systems.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; experience with a statically typed language (C#, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript).
• Record of building APIs/SDKs/data contract systems with schema design, validation, and migrations.
• Experience with distributed or event‑driven systems (Kafka) and schema technologies (Avro/Protobuf/JSON Schema/OpenAPI).
• Cloud services experience with IaC, CI/CD, observability, and platforms like Snowflake/Databricks/Iceberg.
• Bonus: experience in regulated environments with PHI/PII controls.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate services and developer tooling for trusted data publishing/consumption.
• Improve event-driven data paths with Kafka, Avro, and schema registries; ensure clear delivery semantics.
• Move curated data from warehouse/lakehouse to products and systems with monitoring and lineage.
• Build reverse ETL and data activation paths with ownership and audits.
• Incorporate data classification, deletion, masking, access controls, and governance into the platform.
