Job summary

Blue Shield of CA is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead end-to-end data platform delivery. You will design cloud data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts in collaboration with architects and cross-functional teams.

You will mentor senior engineers, influence enterprise architecture decisions, and drive AI/ML initiatives across the enterprise while ensuring data governance and security best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data product ecosystems.
• Expertise in Data Vault 2.0, dimensional modeling, Lakehouse architecture, or domain-driven data design.
• Ability to influence enterprise architecture decisions and mentor senior engineering talent.
• Hands-on with SQL, Python, DBT Cloud and DBT Core; experience with NoSQL and Snowflake/Synapse/Databricks.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, source control, and agile tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of cloud data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts.
• Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Portfolio, Analytics and Data engineering teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive data product initiatives.
• Ensure data governance, privacy, and security across platforms.
• Guide AI/ML initiatives and enterprise data ecosystems.
