Job summary

Blue Shield of CA is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex data-driven solutions for the enterprise. You will architect cloud data lakes, warehouses, and data marts while collaborating with Enterprise Architects, analytics and portfolio teams to build scalable data products.

You will mentor senior engineers, influence architecture decisions, and help implement AI/ML-enabled data platforms in regulated healthcare environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data product ecosystems.
• Expertise in Data Vault 2.0, dimensional modeling, Lakehouse architecture, or domain-driven data design.
• Ability to influence enterprise architecture decisions and mentor senior engineering talent.
• Expert in data management practices, data modelling (Data Vault 2.0), MDM, data integration, data architecture, data virtualization, data warehousing, data privacy and security.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML concepts and applying AI solutions in enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python; DBT Cloud and DBT core; NoSQL and platforms like Snowflake, Synapse, Databricks.
• Proven ability to design and scale large-volume, high-performance data platforms.
• Advanced knowledge of CI/CD, source control, and agile tools like Git, Bitbucket, Jira.
• Healthcare or regulated enterprise experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design cloud data lakes, data warehouse, and data mart solutions for the enterprise.
• Drive the data product end-to-end to meet enterprise data needs.
• Partner with Enterprise Architects, Portfolio, Analytics and Data engineering teams on technical design.
• Mentor senior engineering talent and influence decisions on data architecture and solutions.
