Job summary

Blue Shield of California is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the end-to-end design and delivery of enterprise data products. You will partner with architects, analytics, and engineering teams to implement scalable data lakes, warehouses, and marts on Snowflake, Databricks, and Synapse.

You will drive data quality, governance, and DevOps practices while mentoring senior engineers and guiding enterprise architecture decisions in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data product ecosystems.
• Expertise in Data Vault 2.0, dimensional modeling, Lakehouse architecture, or domain-driven data design.
• Mentor senior engineering talent and influence enterprise decisions.
• Hands-on with SQL and Python; DBT Cloud and DBT Core; NoSQL and cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable data pipelines for data lakes, warehouses, and marts.
• Engineer ELT/ETL solutions ingesting and curating diverse data sources.
• Apply Data Vault 2.0, dimensional modeling, and domain-driven design for analytics products.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Product, and Solution Design teams to implement secure, scalable designs.
• Build and optimize data solutions on Snowflake, Databricks, and Synapse with strong performance and costs controls.
• Embed data quality, observability, lineage, and governance into pipelines.
