Job summary

Blue Shield of CA is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead end-to-end data platform initiatives, guiding data lake, data warehouse, and data mart design in a cloud environment.

You will collaborate with Enterprise Architects, analytics, and data teams, mentor engineering talent, and drive AI/ML enabled data products with a strong focus on governance, security, and scalable performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• Experience with AI/ML, analytics, and data product ecosystems.
• Expertise in data vault 2.0, dimensional modeling, lakehouse architectures.
• Strong ability to influence enterprise architecture and mentor senior engineers.
• Deep knowledge of data management, modeling, integration, privacy and security.
• Hands-on with SQL, Python, DBT Cloud and DBT core; familiarity with Snowflake/Synapse/Databricks.
• Proven capacity to design scalable, high-volume data platforms with distributed architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of CI/CD, source control, and agile tools (Git, Bitbucket, Jira).
• Healthcare or regulated enterprise experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of cloud-based data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts.
• Partner with Enterprise Architects, analytics, and data engineering to shape solutions.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence enterprise architecture decisions.
• Drive AI/ML enabled data products and ensure data governance and security.
