Rippling is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Payroll Data team to design and build high-scale data infrastructure that powers payroll, tax filings, and accounting integrations for millions of employees worldwide.

The role sits at the intersection of product engineering and data platform work, shaping ingestion, materialization, and querying across real-time and batch systems. You will lead foundational pipelines, promote observability, and mentor senior engineers.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience on backend or data-intensive systems.
• Strong data infrastructure background including data pipelines, ETL/ELT systems, or large-scale data platforms.
• Expertise in distributed systems with batch vs real-time tradeoffs, materialization and aggregation strategies.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python and comfort across multiple systems.
• Experience with transactional and analytical data stores and optimizing schemas and queries.
• Platform mindset with reusable abstractions consumed by multiple teams.
• Operational rigor with observability, reliability, and debugging in production.
• Strong communication and ability to influence design decisions across teams.
• Ownership and autonomy with collaborative mindset.

Aufgaben

• Architect and build scalable data infrastructure and pipelines powering payroll reports, pay stubs, tax and accounting integrations, billing, and AI use cases.
• Define and evolve a unified data query layer spanning batch and real-time processing.
• Own end-to-end data pipelines, including ETL/ELT, schema evolution, backfills, and lifecycle management.
• Drive non-functional excellence with monitoring, logging, alerts, and data quality checks.
• Solve interoperability challenges at boundaries between Payroll Data and other core systems.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and help raise the team’s technical bar.
• Partner with Product, Platform, AI, and Payroll teams to translate needs into robust platform capabilities.
