Rippling is seeking a talented Distributed Systems Engineer to join our core payroll team. You will design and implement scalable systems powering payroll engines across multiple countries, using message queues, job flows, and bi-temporal data models to ensure timely processing.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, implement observability, and strive for high availability with robust SLAs. This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing company.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Go or Python.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts.
• Experience with message queues and job orchestration (Temporal, Kafka).
• DBs: MongoDB, PostgreSQL; analytics engines like Snowflake or ClickHouse.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain distributed systems with a platform mindset.
• Write clean, well-documented, scalable code.
• Ensure data consistency with concurrency controls and ordering.
• Orchestrate workloads using Temporal and other queues for payroll workflows.
• Build data pipelines and optimize queries for performance.
• Apply bi-temporal data modeling to payroll data flows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align goals.
• Implement observability: monitoring, logging, tracing.
• Maintain high availability and reliability, aiming for 4–5 9s uptime.
