Rippling is seeking a Staff Engineer for its Payroll platform. You will shape the architecture of a global payroll processing engine handling billions of dollars monthly, driving scalability, reliability, and data integrity across services.

You will mentor engineers, own end-to-end delivery of high-impact features, collaborate with Product, Payments, Risk and Accounting, and help set the technical vision for the team while advocating for best practices and quality.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership.
• Expertise in large-scale distributed backends; Python and Django preferred.
• Experience delivering end-to-end projects across the full lifecycle.
• Strong system architecture, data modeling and core service design.
• Customer-focused mindset with ability to articulate complex ideas.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across teams.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and lead initiatives in a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture for next generation of global payroll processing engine.
• Own end-to-end delivery of high-impact features from design to deployment.
• Drive the technical roadmap for Payroll processing.
• Tackle ambiguous technical challenges with concrete plans.
• Build scalable, maintainable systems with data integrity.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews to raise engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Payments, Risk, Accounting and other engineering leaders.
