Markel is seeking a senior Data Engineering Manager for Milwaukee, leading a team delivering data platform components using Databricks and medallion architecture across Raw, Refined, and Presentation layers. You’ll drive delivery, mentor engineers, and partner with stakeholders to align on priorities.

The role requires 8–10 years in data engineering, strong leadership, experience with AI/ML integration in data platforms, and a background in agile delivery within insurance tech environments.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of experience in data engineering, software development, or delivery of data platform projects.
• Experience leading multiple teams and driving strategic objectives within an insurance tech context.
• Proven ability to implement or leverage AI/ML within data platforms and manage data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of data engineers and contributes to strategic, operational, and divisional goals as a member of the management team.
• Tracks team delivery, provides project updates, and informs management of deviations affecting delivery.
• Plans and conducts performance appraisals and administers disciplinary actions.
• Defines team operating standards and ensures essential procedures are followed at all times.
• Trains, coaches, and mentors employees on the team.
• Identify and measure team health indicators and report to senior management.
• Lead the design, build, and delivery of data platform components using Databricks and medallion architecture across Raw, Refined, and Presentation layers.
