Job summary

USAA is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in the United States to drive data solutions across the full data lifecycle. You will gather requirements, collect, process, store, secure, and archive data; develop reporting and analytics systems; and partner with business stakeholders to align solutions with objectives.

You will mentor colleagues, promote engineering standards, and shape technical direction while leveraging Snowflake, dbt, Kafka, APIs, and Python.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant education and/or experience.
• At least six years of experience in data engineering, data analysis, or software development implementing data solutions, including at least two years in data engineering or data management.
• Experience delivering end-to-end data solutions, including building, managing, and optimizing pipelines in cloud environments.
• Experience curating and modeling data for different consumers and products, including data marts, data lakes, and operational analytics applications.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases, proficiency with cloud technologies and tools, and an understanding of agile principles.
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Kafka, APIs, Python, data modeling, Fivetran, and Git is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead or engineer data solutions through requirements analysis, design, pipeline development, testing, deployment, scheduling, and production support.
• Design, build, manage, and optimize complex data pipelines, structures, transformations, models, schemas, metadata, quality controls, and workloads.
• Develop technical solutions for data engineering and analytics systems, applying suitable methodologies and emerging technologies.
• Lead design reviews, recommend architectural approaches, and help establish technical direction for the team.
• Translate business features into technical stories and solution approaches, and communicate recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
• Create proofs of concept and prototypes for complex solutions, collaborating with cross-functional partners to advance delivery.
• Extract data from internal and external applications into the data platform and support reliable, effective data use.
• Promote development standards and quality through code reviews, defect management, root‑cause analysis, and resolution practices.
• Mentor team members and help ensure business risks are identified, monitored, and controlled in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
