Harris County Public Health seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data models, and a data warehouse to enable analytics and data-driven decision making.

You will collaborate with analytics teams, develop scalable data solutions, and support emergency response data needs. Strong SQL, HIPAA compliance, and experience with Azure/Snowflake are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
• 8 years of experience in database administration.
• 5 years with Stored Procedures, advanced query functions such as Common Table Expressions and Pivots, and other advanced RDBMS tasks.
• 5 years with SSIS.
• 3 years practicing agile principles.
• 3 years working with HIPAA protected data.
• Strong SQL skills and database architecture expertise.
• In-depth understanding of IT security and handling health protected data.
• Ability to solve problems by analyzing issues, identifying root causes, and developing effective solutions.
• Strong time management skills, including priority setting and meeting project deadlines.
• Commitment to collaboration and inclusion, supporting teamwork and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and further develop the data warehouse and analytics environment.
• Build data pipelines, collection systems, and data models aligned to data analysis and reporting requirements.
• Research approaches to improve data collection and processing.
• Work with data analytics teams to provide efficient datasets.
• Share knowledge to strengthen team-wide expertise.
• Provide cross-departmental stakeholders with clear communication on project status, risks, milestones and responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks related to emergency events.
