Job summary

Remitly is hiring a Senior Data Engineer for the Global Card team in Arlington, VA, combining card, credit, and payments data into reliable pipelines and data marts. You will shape data foundations, partner with data scientists, and lead architecture decisions that scale with growth.

You will mentor engineers, ensure data quality with monitoring, and drive the adoption of robust data contracts and documentation across the stack. Equity and medical benefits are part of total compensation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Expert SQL and data modeling skills for scalable analytics.
• Experience building and operating large-scale data pipelines with orchestration and streaming.
• Proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or Go for data/backend work.
• Experience leading projects, defining direction, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience partnering with product, analytics and data science stakeholders.
• Experience using AI tools in development with governance of generated code.

Responsibilities

• Own the data foundation for Remitly Global Card, including schemas, pipelines, and data marts.
• Partner with data scientists on feature definitions and validation.
• Define architecture and roadmap for data systems to scale with the business.
• Ensure data quality with monitoring, tests, and alerts.
• Diagnose failures, manage backfills, and validate data against sources.
• Turn business needs into reusable data products and documentation.
• Set standards for data modeling, CI/CD, access control, and data handling.
• Review changes and collaborate across teams to extend data infrastructure.
• Mentor engineers and participate in interviews to uphold Remitly's culture.
