Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Database Engineer SME to lead cloud data platform design, security, and production migration for a federal data integration program. You will govern data handling under FIPS/NIST standards in a hybrid AWS environment and serve as the database authority for the project.

The role requires deep DB engineering experience, Databricks/Delta Lake expertise, and RBAC/data governance proficiency across federal cloud environments, with remote work options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) with substantial database engineering experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
• Extensive experience with cloud data platforms and data lakehouse concepts.
• Hands-on Databricks or Delta Lake experience required.
• Proficiency in Python or Scala for ETL and automation.
• Knowledge of FIPS 140, NIST SP 800-171/800-172, and CUI governance.
• Experience with RBAC and data security in federal clouds.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of the harmonized data schema for a cloud data lakehouse.
• Document field-level mappings and data lineage across source systems.
• Define and enforce metadata standards for ingested datasets.
• Build automated data quality validation within ETL pipelines.
• Develop the Metadata and Authoritative Source Registry documentation.
• Implement encryption per FIPS 140 and NIST SP controls in cloud environments.
• Ensure Federal CUI governance standards are applied to data stores.
• Monitor and optimize cloud data platform performance and reliability.
• Contribute to the Data Model Harmonization Report with schema decisions.
• Lead the production migration run-book components and cutover tasks.
• Document deployment outcomes and post-deployment validation in reports.
• Create final Operational Playbooks for database documentation.
