Job summary

Strava in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Products team. You will build and operate pipelines and the access layer that turn raw data, embeddings, and models into production-ready data products used across the app, working closely with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams.

This role emphasizes reliability, freshness, and clear contracts, with opportunities to advance self-serve tooling and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating complex, data-intensive backend systems at scale.
• Proficiency in building access layers and internal developer products.
• Experience with production data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, Flink, Iceberg, Snowflake.
• Backend services on cloud (AWS preferred) with Python/Scala/Go; Kubernetes & Docker.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate data pipelines and platform tooling.
• Develop APIs and platform tooling exposing derived data products.
• Contribute to self-serve tooling and golden paths for teams.
• Own end-to-end data product delivery from design to deployment.
• Collaborate across ML, Data Engineering, and Product teams.
