Job summary

KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for the Business Intelligence team in Berlin. You will build and operate data pipelines, optimize data models, and ensure reliable financial and operational reporting across the organization.

The role requires 5+ years of data engineering experience, strong SQL and Python, and experience with workflow orchestration and containerization. The Berlin office is required 3 days per week, offering a collaborative, growth-focused

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience in data engineering or analytics engineering within a data-centric environment.
• Experience owning end-to-end data pipelines (ingest → transform → test → monitor).
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with distributed/columnar/OLAP systems (examples: Redshift, Trino, Vertica) and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres).
• Proficiency in Python and building testable, maintainable code.
• Experience with workflow orchestration and containerization (Airflow, Docker).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for data issues.
• Strong written and spoken English to communicate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect scalable data pipelines using Python and SQL with Airflow.
• Design performant data models and optimize SQL queries for high-scale environments.
• Build automated checks and alerts to ensure data reliability for reports.
• Automate repetitive tasks and create self-service tools for teams to access data.
• Leverage AI-assisted coding tools to speed up development and improve code quality.
