Job summary

IDEXX is seeking a Principal Data Engineer in Westbrook, ME for data foundations powering AI model training and diagnostic products. This hybrid role requires 2 days onsite weekly, partnering with Data Science and MLE teams to deliver robust data platforms.

You will design and maintain production pipelines with Databricks/dbt, mentor engineers, and contribute to Snowflake integrations and data quality observability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production data engineering experience.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with dbt experience.
• Hands-on with Databricks and Snowflake preferred.
• Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing code.
• Collaborates with Data Science and MLE teams to clarify data needs.
• Comfort with CI/CD, GitHub, testing, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain fault-tolerant production data pipelines using Databricks and dbt Core.
• Drive delivery for part of the team roadmap and collaborate with Data Science/MLE.
• Write and review pipeline code, tests, and docs for maintainability.
• Investigate failures and data quality issues; build monitoring and alerts.
• Contribute to Snowflake integration, federated connections, and history tracking.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; review PRs and pair on complex issues.
• Participate in hiring interviews and help set team standards.
