Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Software Engineer at the Professional Technical 4 level to design and build enterprise data solutions that support reporting, analytics, automation, and data-driven decision making across the laboratory. This fully remote role combines hands-on engineering with data architecture and leadership to modernize our data platform and explore AI opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Master's with 4+ years (4+ yrs for Master's)
• U.S. citizenship required to comply with regulations
• Experience with Azure data technologies (Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks)
• Experience with SQL Server and enterprise data warehouses
• Experience with Power BI or BI platforms
• Experience with Informatica or similar ETL/ELT
• Familiarity with Purview or data governance tools
• Experience APIs, cloud or hybrid data architectures, and data integration
• Experience contributing to data architecture, analytics strategy, or roadmaps
• Experience applying AI or AI-assisted development tools to data engineering and analytics

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines, integrations, and data models
• Evolve enterprise data warehouse, analytics, and cloud data platforms
• Translate business needs to effective data solutions with stakeholders
• Develop data models supporting reporting, analytics, and AI
• Apply AI-assisted approaches to data engineering and automation
• Adopt software engineering best practices including CI/CD
• Improve data quality, governance, reliability, and performance
• Define technical standards and long-term roadmap of the data platform
• Provide technical project leadership to other engineers
• Evaluate emerging technologies for modernization
