Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Software Engineer at the Professional Technical 4 level to design and build enterprise data solutions that support reporting, analytics, automation, and data-driven decision making across the laboratory. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 6+ years' related experience, or Master's with 4+ years, or equivalent.
• U.S. citizenship required to perform essential functions.
• Experience with Azure data technologies (Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks).
• Experience with SQL Server and enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Experience with Power BI or other BI platforms.
• Experience with Informatica or similar ETL/ELT platforms.
• Familiarity with Purview or other data governance/cataloguing tools.
• Experience with APIs, cloud or hybrid data architectures, and enterprise application integration.
• Experience contributing to data architecture, analytics strategy, or technology roadmaps.
• Experience applying AI or AI-assisted development tools to data engineering, analytics, software development, or related workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines, integrations, data models, and enterprise data solutions.
• Help architect and evolve enterprise data warehouse, analytics, and cloud data platforms.
• Work directly with stakeholders and technical teams to translate business needs into effective data solutions.
• Develop data models that support reporting, analytics, automation, AI, and other enterprise data needs.
• Explore and apply AI-assisted approaches to data engineering, including opportunities to improve data modelling, transformation, quality, development, and automation.
• Apply software engineering best practices including testing, source control, code review, and CI/CD.
• Improve data quality, governance, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Help define technical standards, architecture, and the long-term direction of the enterprise data platform.
• Provide technical project leadership to other engineers.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for modernisation and innovation.
